John has been a valued colleague over 20+ years. We worked together to develop ultrasensitive chemiluminescent applications in the Tropix start-up environment, and continued technology development to meet shifts in market needs under Applied Biosystems. As Tropix co-founder and Director of Protein Chemistry & Immunology, John drove product introduction, and built the business by interfacing with customers for smooth adoption of chemiluminescence technology in their platforms; these customers still maintain a strong collaborative relationship with the Tropix product team. Upon Tropix acquisition by Applied Biosystems, John’s talents and life science knowledge broadened, as he worked across sites, and through corporate headquarters to combine core technologies in new products. His ability to recognize the value of emerging technologies, and his vision on how to assimilate them in relevant applications forged a close working relationship with Corporate Businesss Development, that contributed to long term R&D planning. During John’s tenure as Scientific Advisory Committee Fellow, he garnered executive support for a focused evaluation and business strategy proposal to offer a stem cell product portfolio. After the acquisition of Ambion, John was given the responsibility for integrating R&D/Product Development, and aligning efforts across 4 groups with overall company strategy. The continued success of Ambion products, as well as their strong cross-site development efforts, speak to his leadership at preserving and promoting their innovative culture in the larger parent company.

John was brought in to manage the Ambion site during the integration with Applied Biosystems. John understood the cultural, proceedural, and developmental challenges that Ambion would face and focused on successfully transitioning our operations to become a fully integrated part of Applied Biosystems. He was adept at identifying the critical needs of the site and focused on skills such as budget planning, talent review, and networking within the larger organization. In addition to his technical expertise, he is well organized, can motivate people, and has a great understanding of the challenges faced in large-scale organizational integrations. He is a critical thinker and a direct communicator, and would be a great asset to organizations of any size looking for techincal, operational, or integration guidance.
