It was a true pleasure working with Justinas when I joined UAB Finolita Unio in Vilnius, Lithuania. I came onboard to help the company launch as a start-up company that had just been issued their eMI license. Justinas is the CTO managing IT, product management, and relationships with critical third-party service providers; never an easy role for a start-up. Beyond being truly an IT expert (!), Justinas played two roles: a member of the Finolita ExCo with an exceptionally challenging role, as well as an IT professor at a leading university. I have been in the FI and FinTech business for over 20 years, but I have never worked with anyone with his management style, breadth, insight, flexibility, and passionate state of mind. Sitting in an ExCo meeting dealing with unforeseen challenges, and with some seniors losing their comfort, Justinas played, effectively, the role of teacher, leader, and assured the team what was required to all in the room being successful – both as a leadership team as well as personally content, challenged, and leading for their next and more challenging roles. He reminded me of some of the amazing educators/leaders I met at university/financial institutions. Devoid of any personal motivation or aspirations – a man at the table who ensured discussions end with shared understanding and clear commitments – Justinas made himself the visionary mortar between the bricks. And his sense of humour is legendary (but never go bowling with him with an after work team meeting - juniors are drawn to him like moths to a flame . . .).
