Primarily, my time in this role was spent investigating automobile liability claims and negotiating Bodily Injury settlements, both with attorneys as well as with unrepresented claimants directly. Negotiations with aggressive attorneys were exciting and yes, even confrontational, at times. As a result, the experience sharpened my wits and galvanized my evaluation and negotiation skills. This was my first full-time job out of college. When I accepted the position, I had aspirations to eventually become a clinical psychologist and I believed that a counseling position would be an excellent step in the right direction, experience-wise. However, the role turned out to be more law enforcement-based and I was tasked with managing a high caseload of probation clients, attending court hearings and providing testimony, as well as analyzing and providing sentencing recommendations… Show more This was my first full-time job out of college. (At this time, probation services were subcontracted by the county to the Salvation Army.) It was very exciting and every day I came home with a terrific story. However, while I valued the experience quite a bit, I did not wish to pursue a continued career in law enforcement. I intended to return to graduate school to obtain a Master's and a PhD, but before I knew it I was successfully recruited by The Hartford Insurance Company because of my investigative and case management skillsets.
