Southeast Rural Community Assistance Project, Inc. (SERCAP) helps small rural towns and communities needing aid in upgrading their water and wastewater systems. SERCAP provides training and technical assistance to rural residents for operation and maintenance of those systems, for capacity building and for economic development in their communities. During my time with SERCAP I began solid waste program for the Florida office and often met with county coordinators and solid waste managers in each county to address the perceived problems in their solid waste departments. I served as an intermediary between counties and Florida DEP, USDA-RD, and EPA and led remediation efforts in counties to reduce the solid waste stream and protect ground water.
