I had the pleasure of working with Justin as a software engineer for two years on the Verifications Team at Blend. Justin was part of a cohort of new hires on a team that was recovering from near-total turnover. The team’s retention and culture ultimately stabilized for two years and counting, in part thanks to Justin’s presence. Justin set a great example of being a collaborative engineer with a growth mindset. Justin quickly showed an ability to unblock himself in a legacy codebase where previous maintainers could not be consulted for guidance. Justin took these opportunities to share his learnings and seek input from others, preventing his newfound knowledge from being siloed. Towards the end of my tenure at Blend, Justin was leading projects that involved other engineers, teams, and vendors. Justin developed plugin patterns for internal and external teams to add integrations to our income verification offering. I would recommend Justin to anyone looking to work with a top notch software engineer.

Justin was a great addition to the backend team at Flightaware. He is truly a lifelong learner and is very passionate about continuous self-improvement in every corner of his life. This really showed through his work life at Flightaware when he gave an extraordinary effort to quickly become productive in vim and git in a short period of time. Justin is always working at becoming better at something, and I think that is a big part of what made him such a valuable addition to our team. He was always willing and eager to get involved with new projects, and he made a big effort to become an expert at what he was working on. Justin ramped up at Flightaware very quickly and he was trusted to take on a very big project within two months of being with the company. He drove it to completion with a lot of autonomy, and made thoughtful design and deployment decisions that helped ensure the success of the project. Justin's part of the project was ready well in advance of the deadline, but because of unrelated logistical issues, he was not allowed to enable his change in production until a few days before it was due. There was a lot of pressure for this change to work correctly in a very tight schedule, and Justin successfully met this expectation. I was very impressed! Not only does Justin have great technical skills, but he is extremely personable. He was always trying to encourage the team to get together for lunch and try different restaurants across the city. This definitely improved morale on the team, and we all really enjoyed it. I know Justin will be a great addition to any team, and I am excited to see him progress in his career. He is extremely well-rounded, and I know he will rise to any challenge.
