Marine Mammal and Seabird observer duties with ancillary duties as a general observer for the vessel. - Adherence to DFO MMPA regarding Schedule 1 species at risk in the - Conducting Daily Seabird at Sea watches as specified by the Eastern Canadian Seabird at Sea program identifying various bird species, tallying counts of birds, and determine associated behaviour in standardized transects - Marine Mammal visual watch duties including daily watches mitigating for various species at risk as outlined by the DFO in the MMPA’s and ESA’s. - Reticle binocular distance calculations - Follow mitigation protocols for species at risk including blue whale, North Atlantic right whale, beaked whale species, and leatherback sea turtles.

Seabird Observation with nightly and daily watches - Adherence to guidelines as specified by the Canadian Wildlife Service for Seabirds at Sea protocol in terms of Seabird Surveys and the Stranded Sea bird at sea capture and Release guidelines - Conducting and Monitoring daily seabirds seen and identifying species, behavior, location and numbers - Adding to a pre-existing private database for a broad range of bird species ranging from forest warblers and northern songbird species to tropical egrets, warblers, hawks and shorebirds. - Distance Sampling calculation, analysis of seabird densities, numbers of determining characteristics such as plumage, behavior distribution and Flight characteristics - Reticle Binocular configuration - Handling of small birds uninjured and release - Marine Mammal species identification by visual cues and anatomy or distinctive features - Occasional Ice monitoring of daily composed ice flight analysis of present or contour analysis of Iceberg data for the labrador contour of Newfoundland Waters.
