      My job as a Direct Support Professional is meant to help my client develop skills the will need in life. Our interactions help with socialization that they otherwise wouldn't receive regularly. As well, we work on creative and practical skills through drawing and cooking. During our time together, my client has become much better at following the directions in recipes. Their movements when mixing stirring and measuring has also improved considerably. To a lesser extent, they have been willing to try different foods. There is still progress to be made, however, they have made great strides. A large part of the job has been gradually building rapport with my client. We have spent time together. By creating an environment where my client feels comfortable, we have been able to discuss more meaningful topics. More importantly, we have discussed possible solutions. These topics would be much harder to do if there wasn't a solid foundation built. From these interactions I have also had the opportunity to model positive social interactions and habits, both during my interactions with my client and when talking to others when we are traveling to different locations.
