Senior Paralegal
-
Feb 2023 - Present
I am a senior paralegal in the Industrial Disease and I assist the solicitors in my team with a range of tasks. This involves me working on claims from the signing up process onwards. Although I am as of yet to have my own caseload, I have done some tasks in the past such as drafting witness statements and will be progressing with this further as I do my SQE alongside working full-time. I request client records after I obtain their authority which range from medical records at their GP or hospital, military or other employer records, and HMRC schedules of employment. I also have to obtain client instructions to gain additional information throughout the claim. I deal with any queries from clients which can be simply requesting an update or at times providing information on the process of the claim. As I previously worked at Clear Law, Hive Legal and Clear Legal Marketing I have a good understanding of the Client Management System we use at work. the experience has allowed me to take new paralegals in the team through training and I continue to help everyone in the team and train them on the system as required. I arrange disbursement and damages payments also, whilst ensuring we receive the correct damages from defendant's and chasing this if required. Upon my return to Clear Law/Hive Legal, I have been asked to review all of our newer files and ensure everything is organised. This type of task is something I am often asked to do as I have a strong attention to detail and I enjoy keeping things organised. Along with this, I continue to contact clients and take new instructions, review client records and respond to any queries. The record reviews are often lengthy as we deal with a large amount of military noise induced hearing loss claims, and as such, it's vital that despite the off putting length, I am observant and catch anything which may be important for the claim. The record reviews require a lot of patience and attention to detail which I am skilled at. Show less

I worked in the Disease team whilst at Clyde & Co. This role involves reviewing claimant records which ranges from medical records, payslips and occupational health records. I was also tasked with keeping a record of all the files the different associates handled and kept a record of when the CRU certificates were due to expire so that they can promptly be requested. I carried out loss of earnings calculations based on the records we were provided as well as additional documentation such as schedule of loss. Show less

Jun 2021 - Dec 2022
My role currently involves working as a paralegal in the Industrial Disease team assisting the solicitors in my team with a range of tasks. This involves signing up new clients and taking them through a questionnaire to see if we will accept their claim and progress with it. This in turn leads to ensuring I obtain initial documents to begin the process of the claim and ensuring that the CFA agreement is in place. I request client records after I obtain their authority to do this which range from medical records at their GP or hospital, military or other employer records, and HMRC schedules of employment. I also have to obtain client instructions to obtain additional information to add to their witness statements and in some cases to write their initial witness statement in full. I also deal with any queries from clients which can range from them requesting information on the progress of their claim or questions related to the process of it. I must arrange damages payments to clients as well as pay disbursements towards the end of the claim. Due to my time in this company working in Clear Legal Marketing, Hive Legal helping the accounts team, and my continued role in Industrial Disease I have throughout this time continued to use the case management system 'Proclaim'. This has developed my understanding of this system which I am now comfortable using daily despite having no prior experience with it at the beginning of my time at Clear Law/Hive Legal. Currently, I am assisting the solicitors in Industrial Disease with the reviewing of medical and military records. This is a very time-consuming task as some records can be several hundred pages long. I must ensure that all of the necessary information is recorded where it may be vital to the claim as well as any additional information which may be useful to know about the client. This requires strong attention to detail, but I am very grateful to have been given the responsibility to do this. Show less

Food Distribution Coordinator for Feed our Community
-
Sep 2020 - Mar 2021
I began volunteering for the organisation called the Boscombe Community Fridge in November 2019. The aim of the project was to collect surplus and out of date food from shops and share in the local area to prevent food waste. In March 2020 the project coordinator decided that something must be done with the food. We had been forced to shut our Community Fridge as this was located in the local library. In the next week I helped out with the coordinating of the new project. Within this week we managed to obtain a van, a venue and new volunteers and began making food parcels using the surplus and out of date food to local people who were vulnerable or struggling financially. This project has continued over the pandemic, merging into the Grounded Community charity and becoming the Feed our Community Project. In September I was asked to join the team part-time as a paid employee in order to help run the project. I have expanded my skills greatly through this project. I have been leading my own team of volunteers whilst coordinating food parcel pick-ups and deliveries, collections of food as well as liaising with local sheltered housing to help supply food to them. However, to me this is mainly an amazing opportunity that brings a lot of joy. Being able to help local people who are struggling has helped me cope through the pandemic. This has given me a purpose to keep going despite the strange and difficult times and has also had a similar impact on our volunteers. Show less

Claims Handler/Bank Liaison Officer
-
Jun 2018 - Mar 2021
My time in this company has allowed me to work in almost every role available in the company. These roles included debt collection and court-related matters regarding a breach of contract by customers, researching different information about the banks' regulators and ensuring that they are not in breach of rules. As well as this, I was required to ensure that Letters of Authority amongst other documents have all the required and relevant information. My main role in this company recently has been as a Bank Liaison Officer which meant I was in charge of keeping a business relationship between our company and the banks whom we deal with daily. I am in contact with my counterparts at the banks, which is done through email as well as conference calls which require me to be able to solve problems and answer questions on the spot including issues related to documents and GDPR. We also have an in-house solicitor who was able to provide me with an insight of what was happening as we went through the change of being a Claims Management Company regulated by the Ministry of Justice to a Solicitor regulated under the Solicitor Regulation Authority. Sep 2014 - Sep 2014
During my a-levels I had the opportunity to have my work experience in Terence McCourt Solicitors. I had the privilege of shadowing solicitors in the firm’s Family and Criminal department. I witnessed cross-examination in court and helped to prepare the client for being cross-examined. I also attended client meetings which was a great opportunity as I assisted in translating for Lithuanian clients. I was able to assist with legal research. This allowed me to further my experience and enhanced my understanding of the legal profession. Show less
