Exactly one year after joining VCGS, I was able to secure a position within the Cytogenetics laboratory, supporting the post-natal team. The initial requirements of this role were to assign tests for patient requests using LabWare and prepare media with samples to produce lymphocyte cultures. Following incubation, I would then use these cultures for chromosome harvesting of metaphases and G-banding of resulting slides for analysis. Reagent preparation, stock replenishment and general laboratory housekeeping are in addition to my core tasks. Understanding patient symptoms and clinical details have been crucial to assign appropriate tests for sample requests. Only two months after joining the postnatal team within Cytogenetics, I was asked to additionally support the Cytomolecular team due to my ability to learn rapidly and adapt to new skills. I currently work Monday and Tuesday in postnatal diagnostics and Wednesday-Friday in Cytomolecular. In the latter team, I perform Fragile X diagnostics using PCR methods and microarrays using the Illumina Infinium Array (The Infinium® Human Global Screening Array assay). Both test bathes are created using LabWare with prioritisation of urgent samples such as amniotic fluid, CVS, and oncology samples. I also perform laboratory equipment maintenance, sample receipt verification, sample archiving, and I monitor emails from stakeholders for both roles.

My main duties were to promptly receive and sort biological samples for diagnostic testing. The sample data was then logged into LIMS with a high level of attention to detail to have them prepared for laboratory testing. I additionally prepared and sent out sample kits to clients and patients in a timely manner. Any samples or requests that were received with any issues were quickly resolved by contacting the clinic or practitioner's office. Further duties included answering phone calls and emails from internal and external stakeholders, which I consistently actioned with respect, accuracy, and friendliness. Due to my willing attitude and high performance, I was called upon to write procedural documents for staff training and to raise our team-standards. I have been regularly commended by staff and managers for my friendly demeanour, positive nature and strong work ethic.

I maintained a career at NAB since November 2014 with my first role being at the NAB Connect help desk. By quickly adapting to my skill set and consistently maintaining a high standard, I was able to secure a position in the Merchant & Digital Support team. In this role I provided quick and effective resolutions for business customers, while mentoring and training our bankers. In addition to my core tasks, I often assisted the leadership team with managerial tasks, along with NAB Connect Technical Support, NAB Connect Onboarding, eChannel Payments, and was frequently called upon to support new bankers. Due to my high level of performance, I was able to become an Analyst in Workforce Management and Optimisation. In my most recent role, I provided insights and optimisations for business outlooks by analysing recent trends and projecting for future expectations. During my time at NAB, I became the “go-to” person for enquiries and have received several awards and recognition for my breadth of knowledge, my consistent reliability, supportive nature, and positive attitude. My managers can be contacted for validation upon request. I made the decision to resign from a successful tenure at NAB to pursue a life-long career in science.

I consistently provided exceptional customer service while carrying out register duties at ALDI. We generally had three or four people working at a given time, so I had to be highly productive and efficient during every shift. I made the initiative to regularly multi-task during stock replenishment, cleaning, and arranging of merchandise, while continuing to assist our customers with kindness and attentiveness. This ensured our servicing standards were always met and my time was utilised effectively, which avoided overtime for our staff. I am proud to state that I received an outstanding (highest) grade during a randomised servicing test from an undercover area manager. My managers can be contacted as references upon request.
