Focus on the design and implementation of storage and memory systems for next generation of non-volatile memory (NVM/NVRAM) such as STT-MRAM, RRAM and so on. - Optimize widely-used data structures such as tree or hash tables for NVM to fully utilize the superior performance and unique characteristics to achieve better write performance. - NVM-friendly file system design and implementation. Use NVM-optimized metadata management and journaling/logging scheme to serve write-intensive consistency-required workloads such as OLTP workloads in database systems better on the state-of-the-art file system. - Lead collaborative projects with industrial partners regarding to the use of NVM as working memory extension to facilitate the development of memory-hungry applications. Develop the hybrid persistent memory pool (NVM+Flash) library to provide higher scalability for the memory-based cache service (e.g. memcached). - Explore and research on using NVM-aware storage/memory layout and transaction protocols to provide the highest level of data freshness for OLAP queries on the database systems under hybrid OLTP+OLAP workloads.
