NYCT Queensboro Plaza Station Renovation - Project Architect: Prepared contract documents and coordinated with the client, consultants, and other disciplines for the total restoration of this landmark subway station in Queens, NY. The project involved the redesign of egresses, an addition of new stairs from the third floor to the second floor of station, and the rearrangement of a token booth at the mezzanine level. Because of the landmark status of this building, the masonry restoration had to include the preservation of artistic ceramic mosaics. (1997) NYCSCA/Calcedo Construction P.S./I.S. 178M Design-Build - Project Manager: Managed the production of contract documents for this new $23 million, 5-story steel-framed and brick façade primary school in Washington Heights, NY. Mr. Morales assisted the contractor in managing the project by visiting the site and meeting with the contractor frequently. He coordinated all the disciplines involved from conceptual through final design. (6/99 - 12/00) Stony Brook School Swanson Gymnasium Addition and Interior Renovation - Project Architect Produced contract documents for a 2,500-sf addition, including a 2-story, double-high-ceiling lounge and gymnasium addition, to a private school gymnasium in Stony Brook, NY. Mr. Morales frequently met with the client to work to meet their needs for the new design. The addition dramatically improved the image of the gymnasium. The project also included the conversion of a weight-lifting area on the second floor of the existing gymnasium into an 800-sf school office. This project was completed on budget. As part of an exclusive design team within the PANYNJ design department I prepared design presentation documents and models for several design studies for future developments. These design presentations, in full colors and details, were to be presented to internal PANYNJ clients (other internal departments). Projects included: PANYNJ JFK International Airport Redevelopment (I worked on several schemes to connect the "AirTrain" station to several individual airlines terminals. AirTrain stations are fully enclosed, heated in winter and air conditioned in summer. They feature wide escalators and glass enclosed elevators and moving walkways connecting nine airline terminals. All AirTrain trains and stations are ADA compliant, with every station designed to ensure the convenient boarding of riders with mobility challenges) PANYNJ Newark-Liberty International Airport International Arrivals Building Addition PANYNJ Lincoln Tunnel Toll Plaza Redevelopment in Weehawken, NJ (This project set new standards for project presentation and development for PANYNJ internal clients) PANYNJ World Trade Center Master Plan Show less

Working as a design consultant (job-shopper) from 1993 to 1996. Was part of a previliged group of architects and engineers that transformed the way the PA of NY&NJ did business. Under the leadership of the Chief Architect, we stablished the concept of a design studio thus proposing internal projects to various internal clients. Based on that model of design development we produced several of the most innovating projects to date. Working as a design consultant (job-shopper) from 1993 to 1996. My Thesis was an alternative project to the one proposed by the Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center in Upper Manhattan. Their proposal was to build a Biohazard Level 4 Medical Lab right across from the medical center occupying four city blocks and demolishing the Audubon Auditorium which was eligible as a City Landmark. My proposal was to build the Washington Height Cultural-Civic Center at the same location and restore the Audubon Auditorium to its original condition.
