More commonly referred to as C.O.P., we offer a statewide entry-level freshman program that provides a summer and first-year residential college experience for individuals who are Hawaiʻi residents and who may not meet the minimum requirements for admission to the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa (UHM), are academically under prepared, economically disadvantaged, represent a positive role model to communities underrepresented at the UHM, non-traditional, or in need of a structured college entry. COP provides a free, intensive 6-week summer academic and residential program, which is designed to prepare individuals for a successful freshman year at the UHM. Participants are required to live on-campus and enroll in classes focused on upgrading academic and social skills. Participants who successfully complete the COP program requirements are admitted to the UHM in the fall semester and advance to COP's First-Year Academic Program. During the First-Year Academic Program, students are required to live in an on-campus residence hall. Students enroll in classes on a full-time basis and attend group meetings and individual appointments with COP advisors. "One-stop advising" is available at the COP office on issues related to registration, career planning and exploration, financial aid, on-campus employment, and other concerns.

  • Native Hawaiian Student Services (NHSS)
    • University of Hawai'i at Manoa
    • Program Coordinator/Academic Counselor
      • Jul 2013 - May 2014

NHSS provides the following services to assist our students on their paths to graduation: Academic, wellness, and career counseling and referral services; Tutoring; Internship opportunities; Community huaka‘i; Summer enrichment program for UH community college system transfer students; and Technology capacity building. NHSS provides spaces for our students to engage in the broader Hawaiian community in activities that are meaningful to their cultural identity and higher educational experience, in general. It is the hope of NHSS that by providing our students with these kinds of formal community engagement opportunities (and, hopefully, more formalized educational opportunities through developing our service learning arm and internship program) will help to reify their sense of responsibility to developing community through, again, higher education.
