      • Jun 2021 - Jul 2022

Significant work to uncover and relay that the former Research Systems Programme initiated in 2017 was behind the HRA’s strategic ambition for delivery. Working with PA Consulting to carry out a strategic review, I used my skills and judgement to identify the root causes of the delay and to describe what a reset programme would need to look like. I have used highly developed communication skills to portray multi-layered, complex, technical information to non-technical staff across disciplines and seniorities, winning support once people understand the issues involved. I was an integral part of the Research Systems Programme in HRA and my role involved establishing and promoting an environment of continuous improvement in all workstreams as well as representing the HRA at national or local meetings with external organisations involved in digital transformation. • Deputy Director of Business Intelligence & Information
      • Jun 2015 - Jul 2018

Part of the Health Informatics directorate, I provide leadership to the Information team including data warehousing and business intelligence, information management, information governance, clinical systems, training and data quality. There are two key streams to my role: providing technical leadership to support the Trust clinical divisions and corporate services; and providing senior level subject matter expertise during the current EPR Programme while the Trust is replacing its two clinical systems. As a senior level manager in a large, complex organisation, I manage significant financial and operational risks. I have to work to tight deadlines to meet key objectives and write/present reports to the Board, including a DW&BI recovery programme, and a business case for £800k of investment. When I joined the Trust, the Information team were in crisis having had no data warehouse developers for 6mths. I have used my skills and judgement to reach the root cause of problems, and have had to use highly developed communication skills to portray multi-layered, complex, technical information to non-technical staff across disciplines and seniorities, winning support once people understand the issues involved. I have addressed the skills issues with a team restructure and recruited new staff in a challenging SQL Developer market. I have been involved in all aspects of evaluation and selection of a new clinical system supplier. My specific responsibilities in the EPR Programme include leading and managing the data migration, information management and training workstreams. My current role involves establishing and promoting an environment of continuous improvement in all workstreams as well as representing RDaSH at national or local meetings with external organisations involved in health informatics. • Head of Data Analytics & Operations
      • Oct 1998 - Jun 2015

As part of the senior management team at Avoca, I lead a team of specialist health informatics professionals to excel and produce quality deliverables involving patient data and high clinical risk. I am commercially driven and motivated and lead a team of people to achieve business excellence, with the express aim of exceeding customer expectations. My specific responsibilities included the day to day running of the Avoca Office in Chesterfield. Project managing healthcare system implementations including data migrations to new hospital systems, reference data management for system implementations across the globe and data warehouse and business intelligence solutions for healthcare clients. Working closely with the Development team to architect practical, efficient solutions which delivered customer expectations required a day to day technical understanding of the technologies being used including Microsoft SQL Server, ASP and .NET while remaining commercially driven and focussed. In conjunction with understanding healthcare data sets, patient data flows, data quality issues and national reporting, this was a winning combination of skills to ensure top, accurate results in a high risk environment. Key achievements included from its infancy, the development of the Avoca Migration Service and Migration Process. I drove improvement in this revenue stream, managed the team to meet operational milestones, and ensured exceptional levels of accuracy and delivery to deadlines. As part of my role to secure future business opportunities for Avoca, I also initiated, designed, wrote and implemented an Advanced Diploma in Health Informatics (accredited by University of Wolverhampton - 80 credits at level 5 of the UK QCF). The learning outcomes for this course were mapped to the NHS Knowledge and Skills Framework (KSF) and elements of the course were accredited by UK Council for Health Informatics Professionals (UKCHIP) through the EQAS quality scheme.
