As an Instructional Technology Specialist with FDLRS, I served the parents and professionals who work with students with disabilities. I introduced them to and educated them on assistive and instructional technology that may be used within and outside of the classroom to meet the needs of individuals with physical or cognitive differences. The FDLRS Emerald Coast Associate Center serves three counties including Escambia, Santa Rosa, and Okaloosa. Through virtual and face to face trainings, I provided classrooms and families with the solutions they need to be more independent and experience success. All trainings were built based on needs assessments and requests from district personnel independently or in collaboration with content area specialists. Additional duties included serving as an advisor for technology purchases, managing and the inventory of multiple devices for the staff of FDLRS Emerald Coast, as well as data input into state discretionary project databases required by the Florida Department of Education. My responsibilities included planning, preparing materials, and delivering lessons for a diverse group of students with significant cognitive disabilities, as well as maintaining federal and state required paperwork and leading meetings for individual education plans for students with disabilities. As a swim coach, I managed practice and competition schedules, led practices including teaching proper swimming techniques for 20+ students, as well as organized fundraising events, transportation, and lodging for out of area events. Proper paperwork and budgeting management also played a large part in my role as a coach. I was the first swim coach for West Nassau High School and assisted in creating opportunities for both girls and boys to participate in athletics.
