  Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) volunteers are sworn officers of the court, appointed by a juvenile court judge to advocate one-on-one for children or youth who are the victims of abuse and neglect and in the foster care system. In fulfilling this child-centered role, the CASA performs three separate functions: Investigation—task is to uncover all relevant facts and report them to the court; Advocating—for the best interest of the child in the courtroom and in the child welfare and social services systems, identifying resources and services in the child’s best interest; and Monitoring—to ensure that court orders are being followed and all services are provided in a timely manner and who brings to the court’s attention any new developments, changes, or concerns.

  Initiated and developed comprehensive school nursing office for a new charter school, providing health services, including acute and chronic health care management for approximately 150 children and staff. Incorporated school policy and state law. Trained staff on use of basic health and safety protocols. Provided preventative health services; emergency health/trauma care; mental healthcare and ongoing education to staff, children and families. Secured multiple donations to furnish office with needed supplies and furniture. Initiated and developed protocols for countless physical and mental healthcare needs. Coordinated communication between health office, school administration, home, and community healthcare providers. Directly involved with assessment, implementation and maintenance of 504/IEPs. Educated and trained additional registered nurse and health-aid to continue program upon volunteer departure.
