Julian has been volunteering to help with sysadmin at Network Time Foundatoin for several years' time now. He's set up Linux and FreeBSD boxes, email, list servers, Request Tracker, SQL, and no doubt several other things I'm forgetting. Julian does great quality work, and gets things done quickly. On the rare occasions when we've and an emergency, he's always been able to either quickly get things solved, or pointed us in the right direction so we can get things running ourselves. Julian has always gotten along well with others on our team.

Julian was a dedicated team member and very enthusiastic. His enthusiasm and obvious commitment to projects and team were highly valued. His dedication to his responsibilities, team and customers, as well as expanding his knowledge and skill base are a credit to him. I believe Julian will be a highly value member of any team.

I volunteer my time to Linux Australia to assist them with their infrastructure and systems. It is important to me to give back to a community that provides it's members with so much value. I volunteer my spare time to NTF. Working with NTF has taught me experience in working in a remote team environment. At NTF I apply my in-depth linux knowledge to solve problems brought to me. If the time on your computer is correct, it's probably because of Network Time. Network Time began in the earliest days of the Internet, and one could easily assert that it has been and remains one of the most critical core-components of the Internet. For too long, Network Time was cared for by a small group of dedicated and passionate volunteers. With the creation of Network Time Foundation there now exists a means for focused professional effort to be made for all aspects of Network Time. Show less

I came into Pivit to redeploy their entire server infrastructure. The current servers Pivit ran were getting tired, so I had the perfect chance to redploy thier entire stack in a "greenfields" like scenario. I was requried to understand the current layout and come up with a buisness plan to move everything into the new stack. This included selling the idea to the CEO all the way to deployment. This gave me a great chance to expose myself to new skills and challenges. I have had the chance to expand my coding from Perl to Python, and have developed a few Python scripts at Pivit to make my life easier. So far I have implemented for Pivit: - 2x oVirt virtualization clusters compromising of 3x Dell R630 servers, 1x Dell SAN and 1x Dell 10GB switch - WWW cluster based on Nginx using GFS2, Pacemaker for the shared disk locking - HA MySQL stack based on MariaDB + ProxySQL - HA LDAP - Redis, ElasticSearch, Logstash, Kibana stack - Sympa Mailing List - Memcached cluster - MongoDB cluster - Docker Distribution - HA Radius - HA DHCP - LibreNMS - Katello+Foreman - Shinken + Thruk - IPAM - DNS - OpenGear OOB - Request Tracker - Python syncer script from libreNMS into Shinken Show less

My time at Aspedia was spent improving the current infrastructure. During my time I implemented: - puppet infrastructure - oVirt virtualization stack spread over 7 blades - HA Web infrastructure with SSL offloading - MySQL server performing over 1000qps - Drupal cache warming script - Perl based agent system to push out NGINX configs My time at Aspedia was spent improving the current infrastructure. Jeppesen is my first job within the corporate I.T world. It has been a great experience for me. I started the job as a Site Engineer, and quickly progressed to the position of Linux Administration. I am responsible for over 50+ Unix and Linux servers spread across Melbourne and Brisbane. Jeppesen has allowed me to tune my Linux skills to fit a corporate environment. Over 6 months ago my Unix team leader exposed me to the Solaris OS. Since then I have had to maintain 10+ Solaris servers. My responsibilities at Jeppesen are as follows; * Nagios + Centreon monitoring system (Brisbane) * Nagios + n2rrd monitoring (Melbourne) * Squid proxy server (CentOS 5.1) * SGE Cluster + Studio environment (5x Redhat 4.5 AS) * NFS + NIS server (Redhat 4.5 AS) * SunOne Directory Server (Redhat 4.5 AS) * Puppet Dev + Production environment * CVS sever * Bugzilla server * Codestriker server * VMWARE cluster (5 nodes) * General windows tasks and troubleshooting (exchange,IIS,DNS,DHCP,AD) * Desktop support * SOE * Building and racking up new servers * Network cable patching * Weekly tape rotation * AIX * HP/UX At Jeppesen I have exceeded the expectations of my employer. I have been rewarded for my over achievement during the 6 month performance reviews. Show less

My position at World Smart Retech was to solve hardware and software issues remotely over the phone to clients. This job was a challenging experience for me as you had to learn how to ask the correct questions to ascertain what the issue was and talk the client through fixing the issue over the phone. Sometimes I could fix issues by writing bat shell scripts to do the work for the client, like reboot a computer or search and clean up un-wanted files. I really enjoyed writing these scripts, as I enjoy the design aspect. I thoroughly enjoyed the feeling you got by helping someone who really needed the help and appreciated what you did for them in fixing the issue. Show less
