I began my publishing career 24 years ago in 1988 as a field sales representative on a local Oxford newspaper. The Oxford Journal is one of the UKs oldest free newspapers and I feel very proud to have started my media career on the paper. In the twenty four years I only worked for two employers and gradually ended my local media career as the advertising display manager for Newsquest Oxfordshire, where I was responsible for 7 newspapers, 5 websites, 2 magazines and managed up to 30 employees, covering categories such as local display, B2B, property and motoring. Some of the titles I was responsible for included the Oxford Mail (as used in Inspector Morse) and the award winning Oxford Times. At the beginning of 2012 I felt the timing was right to move away from local media and further my career with new challenges and direction. Although the decision was correct I will always have a special place in my heart for all the Oxford titles I have been involved with.

The Auto Weekly motoring publication was my first responsibility, whilst working for Courier Newspapers. Within three months I ensured 90% of my clients were on a twelve month signed contract. As a result, I was promoted to sales manager of this publication in February 1997. Through the implementation of good working practices and the building of a strong sales team, I reported a 30% weekly revenue growth on The Auto Weekly. In May 1997 I was asked to launch TVW (Thames Valley Weekly), an A4 weekly classified directory distributed throughout Reading. TVW contained advertising from all market sectors, however with a strong bias towards Motors and Retail clients. Following its launch, the product saw steady growth and consequently, I was asked to resume the management of Auto Weekly with the objective of restoring it to its former market position.
