I am certified to teach all secondary science classes – both physical and biological science and have taught Biology, Earth Science, Chemistry, Forensics, Anatomy and Physiology. I have experience in applying project-based techniques as well as incorporating NGSS practices. Having worked in the sciences, prior to and since obtaining my undergraduate degrees, I have an excellent hands-on and relatable understanding of the industry. My experience includes: technical work in construction, water chemistry labs and cancer research hospitals, teaching conversational English in Japan, and studying oceanography on the Chesapeake Bay. These experiences have allowed me to become an open and well-rounded individual who sees the practical application of the science that is taught. As a science educator, I appreciate the exciting variety of life we have around us. Over the years, I have developed methods of instruction that enable all students to be successful and learn the importance of our physical and natural world around us. Through my study of curriculum and instruction, I have been able to combine my skills of teaching with the latest in quality instruction and have effectively incorporated researched based models of instruction ranging from Marazano’s Classroom Instruction that Works, to Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol (SIOP). I have high standards and expectations for myself. I also expect the same for my students, with the understanding that it often takes time, effort and encouragement to help students to reach those expectations. Show less
