  Two summers ago I worked for the Pittsburgh Festival Opera as a Sound Design Intern (June 12, 2017 - August 5, 2017). We did such shows as Sweeney Todd, Intermezzo, and a lot more. We even had a world premiere of a new opera, called A Gathering of Sons, which is about police brutality against African Americans. Part of my job was to find and create sound effects for the different shows. In my opinion my best design work was for Sweeney Todd. Another part of my job was running the sound board during a show. Because operatic singers would have such a loud voice already, it would be unnecessary to amplify their voices even more, but we did use hanging mics to go to a monitor for the conductor to hear. There were a few times I had to use wireless body pack mics to amplify certain characters (specifically A Gathering of Sons and Intermezzo), all of them being children who could amplify their voices like the other singers could. In general though it was a great summer and I would definitely return if had got the opportunity next summer.
