Experience

    • PHD Candidate
      • Jan 2022 - Present

My PhD will investigate the safety and tolerability of combined oral low-dose ketamine and zinc supplementation in individuals living with Anorexia Nervosa, and associated changes in brain neurometabolites (glutamate, GABA, glutamine, and glutathione) measured using J-edited Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy. This novel pharmacological combination is informed by the intersection of zinc and ketamine at the NMDA receptor. My central questions are whether the novel treatment combination is safe, acceptable and tolerable to participants, and whether it is associated with changes in brain neurometabolites that are associated with and/or predict clinical response.

    • Research Intern
      • Sep 2020 - Dec 2020

Under the supervision of Dr. Mia Schaumberg, and a wider research team, I assisted in the development of a research evaluation toolkit for the Healthy Sunshine Coast - Active Seniors program. Additionally, I directed the protocol development, literature search, and data screening for a scoping review of community based exercise programs for older adults, with the aim of publishing in 2021. This has given me experience with: - Developing a comprehensive search strategy for various databases (e.g. Scopus, PubMed, Web of Science). - Data screening and extraction – using software tools such as EndNote and Rayyan. - Scientific paper writing - Ethics application procedures and design of study protocol’s, procedures and logistics.
