In my PhD research, I focused on the role of B cells and the antibodies they produce in causing or enhancing immune responses in patients that received an allogeneic stem cell transplantation for the treatment of leukemia or lymphoma. My research focused on the immunogenicity of the therapeutic monoclonal humanized anti-TNFalpha antibody adalimumab. Patients suffering from rheumatoid arthritis (RA) are often treated with this biological drug for prolonged periodes of time, and some develop anti-antibodies that lower the effect of treatment.
