M-Pesa is one of the most successful mobile payment financing product for unbanked population in emerging markets which enables customers to access financial services through their basic mobile phones. The product has been launched by Vodafone for Safaricom in Kenya and Vodacom in Tanzania in 2007 and later in India, Afghanistan, SA, Mozambique etc. The project won several awards since and put Kenya on the map as an innovation and technology Hub in Africa. By 2013 Kenya processed 237 million peer to peer M-Pesa transactions with a staggering 43% of its GDP.I have spent 3 years of the M-Pesa core system design and business process development as part of the Business Analyst team of 5, working closely with different markets' representatives, product managers and system architects. Desigining new M-Pesa functions, business and user interactions with the systems and new integrations with other financial (like Banks and International Money Transfer Hubs) and telecommunication (like USSD and GGSN) network components. Developing user guides and tranining materials, leading new functional and release testing in market and contributing into the e2e implementations of new services for different M-Pesa markets. Supervising the commuincation between 3rd party vendors and market representatives to achieve high quality delivery and acceptance of new features through the lifecycle of the project.Worked extensively on the implementation of:International Money Transfer Integration Design - integrating with IMT Hub and Westend Union to send money from abroad to the M-Pesa accounts. Desgin of Bank and M-Pesa Integration - to expand financial services and inclusing with micro loans, savings and insurrance. Local Customasition Tool Design and Implementation - to support business agility by introducing promotions and customer communications into their local market.
