Jubica and I have worked on several projects together during our Master’s study at KTH. She is a passionate and outgoing person who has immense curiosity about her field. I would recommend her for her amazing qualities.

Jubica did her master's thesis with us at Swerim, which was about characterization of carbides in steel. She has a good analytical ability, takes her own initiatives and has a strong work ethic. I would love to work with Jubica again and highly recommend her.

The project is about model alloy tool steels which rely on precipitation of nano-sized carbides to get good mechanical properties. Commercial alloys being very complex, the study has been simplified by selecting elementary composition compared to commercial alloys and more controlled heat treatment. Being the International Student Ambassador for Engineering Materials Science, KTH is boosting my interpersonal skills such as relationship management, social skills, team spirit, collaboration, and work ethic. By uniting with colleagues on an international platform and handling the global audience for Engineering Materials Science, I have greatly improved my competency in building international relations and enhancing my communicating skills. This experience is helping me to embrace the Swedish culture.

The summer-job was well-planned and included five study visits, lectures, and project work. Study visits to Sandvik’s Additive Manufacturing Unit, Sandvik Coromant (Sandviken and Gimo), Sandvik Mining and Rock Technology Unit, Sandvik Blast Furnace and Electric Arc Furnace highlighted the advancement in the related technology concerning the environmental and human welfare. These visits consisted of an hour of lectures followed by tours to the respective units. My research involved etching of SAF™ 2507, duplex stainless steel grade. With analytical insight, I formulated three etching recipes to etch the highly corrosion-resistant material. In-depth analysis at each stage of etching made me realize the underlying chemistry of engraving the steel. I became familiar with the available etching techniques and the Light Optical Microscopy. The use of Sandvik’s internal image processing software for the microstructures aided me in learning the substructure of the steel. In addition to understanding the production technology through project work, I was able to enhance my managerial skills by organizing the study tours. Besides achieving a scientific perspective, I groomed myself in a professional environment among other experts in the production area through regular fika times that improved my networking skills.

ABB STP is a platform that provides opportunities exclusively to female candidates with an aim to bring a gender equality in all aspects of engineering. In the programme , I was able to :- know how ABB functions- what is sustainability to ABB- how it fulfills the sustainability mission - gather an insight regarding the coordination among different departments that work together. This was possible by involving in the activities that had the sole aim to expose students to such strategies at the very beginning of their careers. Undoubtedly, this is a giant step to build future engineers, researchers, technical experts and strong intellectuals. The well-planned sequence of tasks along with the motto behind them has nurtured me throughout the journey of the Sustainable Talent Program at ABB.

I worked as a research intern in National Institute of Technology with fellowship. My topic of research was 'Tribological behaviour of LM6 metal matrix composite'. The main aim of the project was to increase the usability of LM6 aluminum by adding fly ash into the matrix and observe the tribological behaviour of the composite under different experimental conditions. The project has taught me the practical challenges involved in realizing the tribological behavior of the composites, recognizing the study to be interdisciplinary. It has allowed me to appreciate the intricacies involved in the composites to perform flawlessly for decades together under extreme conditions. I got familiar with working individually as well as in a team culture. I had a team of three members including a Phd scholar and another undergraduate student. This experience motivated me to dig deeper into the discipline. Hence, I chose to pursue a Masters in Materials Science and Engineering at KTH after my undergraduate studies in Mechanical Engineering.

The knowledge about the overall working of a steel plant from the smelting of iron ore to the rolled product including the procurement of the raw materials , its conditioning for further usage in various departments and the product quality has helped me in understanding the functioning of a steel plant. As a vocational trainee, I worked in the mechanical workshop where I learned the different manufacturing techniques commonly used in the production technology.
