Talia Rampelt, MSc Environmental Sustainability

I am very grateful to have had the chance to work with and learn from Juanita over this past year through a social impact themed working group for members of the 2020 Venture for Canada fellowship. Juanita poured time and energy outside of her work hours to create this group, where she hosted discussions on a wide range of social impact and sustainability related topics. Juanita’s expertise in facilitation and education created a positive, inclusive, and thought-provoking learning experience for each of us, as we were challenged to think critically about the ways we integrate social impact into our daily work. Juanita’s guidance, generosity and support played an integral role in the significant personal and professional growth I experienced while participating in this working group.

Calla McLachlan

Juanita is a highly skilled facilitator, thinker and educator. During a year-long sustainability and social impact group we participated in together, she was adept at helping myself and other Venture for Canada fellows think critically about complex issues. She brought energy to every meeting we had, and elevated our discussions by asking thoughtful questions and encouraging fellows to see alternate perspectives. While Juanita possesses deep expertise in sustainability, social impact, and systems thinking, she facilitated our group in a way that was inclusive of those with less knowledge in these areas. Through working with Juanita, I have been inspired by and have learned from her passion for social impact, her work ethic, and her broad areas of interest and expertise.

I loved teaching at the university level, and quickly realized I knew nothing about education. While instructing at the 101 level I completed the Certificate in University Teaching offered by the University of Western Ontario, tough 55+ students over two years ranging from 1st to 4th in a safe yet discursive post-secondary classroom environment. As an Educator I believe in open and consecutive debate. I structured my curriculum through knowledge building theory, active learning, and oppressive frameworks centred on design thinking. Teaching over 190 hours of art and aesthetic theory concepts I designed innovative rubrics focused on providing constructive feedback and ensuring the "learning stuck." I received excellence in teaching recognition award. Show less
