Lived, worked, and fully integrated within an isolated community in the South Pacific island nation of Vanuatu working on issues of public health, cross-cultural community engagement, and the effects of climate change on a coastal nation.Coordinated the engineering design, environmental survey, community organization, and fundraising for Phase 1 of ~$30,000USD gravity-fed, sustainable water piping system for a community of 125 people. Successfully transitioned project leadership over to the community and subsequent Peace Corps volunteer.Re-established the presence of a four village-wide Aid Post Committee — the group responsible for the community health of four villages totaling approximately 550 people. Set meeting agendas, focused broader committee goals, and managed communication across 10 team members in rural conditions with no cellular network.Managed the construction of a 36 VIP (Ventilated-Improved Pit) toilet project, valued at $2000 USD. Wrote the project grant and wrote bylaws adopted by the village to ensure future VIP toilet standards. The Vanuatu Ministry of Health used this project’s success as the launch site for their country-wide VIP toilet initiative.Partnered with Solar Spell, an organization that provides digital solar libraries across the South Pacific, to develop workshops for twenty-four women in my village on basic tablet usage and how to operate the solar library.
