James is a highly professional, motivated editor who is able to precisely balance reader needs with those of the business, whether he’s working on an editorially independent title or a commercial project. James’s enthusiasm and positive attitude, even when up against the tightest deadlines, made him a pleasure to work with when we worked together on the official Windows Vista magazine. It’s hardly surprising he was later snapped up to join T3, one of Future’s biggest global brands.

    • Features Editor, T3/T3.com
      • Jul 2013 - Jun 2014

Features editor of T3 (magazine and tablet) and T3.com. Responsible for features across all of T3's platforms, (magazine, web and iPad) as well as Tech Life Editor. • tech. associate editor
      • Sep 2012 - Jun 2013

Part of the launch team of tech., Future's innovative digital weekly technology magazine. Launching exclusively iPad before moving to Google Magazines and Zinio tech. was part of Future's new digital publishing strategy, offering a weekly round-up of technology news, comment, reviews and opinion. Run with only a two-man editorial team, the role involved design, layout, Photoshop, and planning interactive treatments as well as the usual fayre of an editor. Working on tech. magazine was a wonderful digital publishing experience, where all the rules of old publishing no longer applied. A brilliant and totally challenging experience.

    • Editor, T3 Presents: Guide to Android
      • Mar 2012 - May 2013

I edit a quarterly T3 branded bookazine about getting more from Android devices. The 148-page magazine is made nearly entirely from existing editorial content, which I curate from a range of sources. The extremely demanding three month schedule requires constant forward planning to seed content for the next issue, as well as feeding any fresh editorial back into the monthlies to save cost.

    • Launch editor, Windows: The Official Magazine
      • Jul 2012 - Oct 2012

A temporary secondment to launch the new and improved Windows: The Official Magazine, a lifestyle technology digital and print title. I was brought in with the plan for the magazine still in its infancy and I have been working on guiding the project from hand-drawn wireframes to the complete product, which will hit the shelves (digitally and physically) in October 2012.

    • Editor, What Laptop Tablet & Smartphone
      • Mar 2011 - Jul 2012

I joined What Laptop in March 2011 and quickly relaunched and redesigned the title to become What Laptop Tablet & Smartphone. The relaunch required a complete refocussing of the product for a less tech savvy readership of supermarket buyers, and the change of brand led to an initial upturn in advertising and a signifiant reduction of costs.Sadly, despite the hard work of an excellent team, the volatile advertising market and a reliance on creative solutions led to the title being too risky to continue and it closed in September 2012.
