As a Children's Law Extern, I performed legal research and prepared memoranda in areas of special education law, school discipline, and IDEA protections for students in correctional facilities. In addition, I drafted pleadings as well as observed client meetings, expulsion hearings, and IEP meetings at schools. As a student attorney for the Special Education Advocacy Clinic, I provided representation to parents whose children were in need of special education services or were facing expulsion and/or suspension from school. I traveled to schools all around South Carolina and represented parents in IEP and 504 meetings with school personnel as well as attended disciplinary hearings.
