Josie is a charismatic and energetic leader with an innate ability to inspire others and to drive through change. During her time with LSE Students’ Union (LSESU), she was at the forefront of some landmark achievements, the results of which will transform the student experience at LSE for years to come. Some examples include: - A sector leading democracy review, which resulted in the design and approval of a highly innovative new democratic structure - The creation of an education programme which has transformed consent culture on campus - An increase in funding for the Students’ Union - Successfully piloting a tool that will enable the tracking of student wellbeing at LSE Josie also had to deal with some challenges in her year at LSESU. The General Secretary is an elected presidential-like role and therefore the office-holder acts as the figurehead for the entire organisation. It is a difficult post that brings with it significant levels of scrutiny from students, the media and other stakeholders. During her term Josie had to deal with some particularly high profile situations which attracted much attention, not only on campus, but nationwide too. The confident and composed manner with which Josie approached these challenges, discussions and media interactions was truly remarkable and is the perfect example not only of her leadership skills in action, but also of her ability to work well under pressure. The key to Josie’s many successes can be found in these abilities, but also in her exceptional communication skills, her ability to negotiate and take difficult decisions, and above all the professionalism and diligence with which she approaches each task. I had the pleasure of working really closely with Josie during her time at LSESU, and her kindness, solidarity and boundless positivity made her an incredibly popular and well liked leader/colleague, not only within the Students’ Union, but across LSE more broadly as well. Any organisation would be lucky to have her and it is my pleasure to provide her with this recommendation.

Josie was a great asset to our team during her internship. She was always willing to turn her hand to any task and was keen to learn. She picked up complex tasks and ambiguous briefs well, worked at speed when needed, showed good stakeholder management and was a very personable positive team member.
