  My role with Medical Edge Australia is known as a First Responder. A First Responder for Medical Edge is hired privately to attend sporting and community events, along with non-emergency patient transport, and provide pre-hospital care and first aid to patients. Some of the duties I was required to fulfil for this role include comprehensively assessing the medical condition of patients when they’re injured or unwell, administering any necessary treatments, providing reassurance to them, liaising with emergency ambulance crews when their attendance is required to transport a patient to hospital, and safely and effectively managing dynamic and dangerous situations until they arrive. Sometimes in this role I find myself supporting more qualified colleagues, such as paramedics and doctors, but regularly I also attend events alone. In addition to providing in-field treatment, I have also been required to maintain thorough and accurate documentation of all aspects of cases I have attended, part of which includes documenting the safe use of scheduled medications. Other skills I have developed during my time at Medical Edge include strong patient handovers, team work skills, and OH&S awareness. Show less
