Joshua and I worked together on several audience engagement initiatives at Haven Chicago when he was Artistic Director there. It was always a joy to brainstorm ideas with Josh, and I always felt so appreciated when I was able to make those ideas come to fruition for him and his company. Joshua is incredibly intelligent and a true joy to bat ideas around with. Through one of Haven's initiatives, Joshua also mentored and partnered me while I created my ongoing anger-positivity cabaret. His encouragement, creativity, and intelligence helped push what felt like such a small and silly idea to become a small but powerful movement in Chicago Theatre. I could never have done it without him. I would love to work with Josh again in any environment.

Josh has an undeniable aptitude for assembling an ensemble. As an actor in the Theatermakers 2010 class, I found myself challenged, supported, and inspired by an unbelievably ideal group of students. Josh played a crucial role in selecting each and every one of us from an enormous group of applicants. Each individual provided a significant contribution to what was in-arguably one of the most cohesive, ingenious classes of the program at that time. Josh shared a passion for the collaborative process that I had never before experienced. He inspired me to step outside of my comfort zone- to embrace the unfamiliar as an opportunity to stretch my talent. Josh is inspired by those that he works with- allowing their individuality to mold and shape each piece into a unique experience only possible by the group at present. He is completely dedicated to each and every project he undertakes, and devotes himself completely to the task at hand. I have never encountered such passion and awe for the theater as I have in Josh Sobel, and highly recommend his work as a director and collaborator.
