I worked as a rider for Deliveroo during my first year of university but had to give this up as I had the opportunity to study in Canada for the second year of my degree. Following on from my ‘A’ Levels, I worked as an unpaid intern for my local MP. During this time I took responsibility for casework and research. This involved writing letters, emails and making phone calls to constituents, other MP’s and governmental departments. I composed press releases on the MP’s activities in the Constituency which appeared in the Kent Messenger as well as her Parliamentary website. During this time, I learnt a range of different skills including how to utilise my time effectively whilst under pressure. It also gave me valuable knowledge on how to communicate with members of the public. Show less

In my role as a lifeguard, I was responsible for setting up equipment for swimming classes and always prepared for an emergency in the pool. Being a lifeguard meant working with instructors as part of a team and relying on one another to take the correct decisive action. These skills have certainly stuck with me as I made a beach rescue last summer, a year after my qualification expired.
