I am employed at Conover School. I began my teaching tenure there as a high school teacher and taught students ranging from 9th grade through the age of 22 (exit age). All of the students that I teach present with moderate to severe disabilities and some of these students also present with behaviors that impact their learning as well as that of others around them. I have experience in creating lesson plans that are specialized and differentiated to address the learning of all students. During the shift to remote instruction, I was able to effectively and efficiently deliver educational services that maintained a high level of rigor and remained standards-based. When students returned to school on a 4-day per week schedule, my administration approached me and requested that I become the remote learning teacher for all students who chose to remain fully remote during this period. This is the position that I currently hold. I teach students in all grade bands, elementary, middle, high school, and transition-aged students. I am responsible for creating standards-based, differentiated lesson plans for each grade band. I conduct daily class sessions for each grade band through a virtual interface. I create materials that increase student access that I then send home to students to assist in the delivery of instruction. I have implemented a research-based curriculum in my classroom and into my virtual teaching sessions. I have collaborated with related service personnel (OT, PT, SLP, VI) in order to better address the specific needs of the students I serve. I have received high marks on my evaluations that have been conducted at Conover School. I have worked hard to develop a data collection system that is functional for students with disabilities who participate in instruction virtually. I was named the 2020=2021 Teacher of the Year for Conover School by my peers. Show less

I worked in a high-school-level classroom that includes grades 8-12. I was the lead teacher in a classroom and there are two instructional assistants that worked in the classroom with me that made up our instructional team. We serve students that are broken into the following grade bands 8-9, 10-11, 12 that rotated through our classroom and follow a block-style schedule. The students I served presented with a variety of disabilities. I have continued to develop my teaching style and practice as well as classroom and behavior management techniques so that I may become a more effective educator. I have consistently received high marks on evaluations by both my peers as well as administration. Serving students and providing a quality educational experience was my primary goal with Cleveland County Schools. I was responsible for maintaining a safe and supportive learning environment for all students. I have implemented standards-based lesson plans that use research-based curriculum and instructional strategies. I worked with many school groups such as the school improvement team, the graduation committee, and the prom committee. I have coordinated with multiple related service personnel (OT, PT, SLP, VI, and HI) in order to better address student needs and integrate IEP goals for students. I am a lateral entry teacher and I am finishing a master’s degree in special education in an adapted curriculum. Show less
