    • Deputy Design Manager
      • Feb 2022 - Present

Since February 2022, my role has combined temporary works design with the management of the modelling and drafting CAD team within Taylor Woodrow Technical Services. The first part of this role includes the design of haul roads, accesses and public road diversions for several sections of HS2, as well as other major projects. This includes road geometry, pavement construction, cut and fill, swept path analysis, modelling and the coordination of the road safety audit process. In addition to my design role, I take responsibility for the output of six technicians, whilst setting the standard for the quality of both our models and drawings. I do this through putting in place formal guidance and procedures, training sessions and drawing review workshops to determine areas for improvement. Alongside this, I have developed WorkSpaces within both Bentley Microstation and Bentley OpenRoads for our Technical Services and Digital Teams, as well as specific Worksets for individual projects. These help to ensure conformity to our CAD standard, whilst making the drafting process more efficient. Show less

    • Design Engineer
      • Jan 2021 - Present

Since January 2021 I have been working as a Design Engineer with a specific emphasis on the use of OpenRoads for Highways/Haul Road design. This combines my engineering ability with my modelling skills as I produce designs for projects such as HS2 and Highways England.

    • Section Engineer
      • Aug 2018 - Jan 2021

I am currently working as a Section Engineer providing Step Free Access for Amersham, Harrow-on the Hill and Osterley Stations. The project aims to be paper free utilising BIM wherever possible to deliver lift shafts and overbridges in each location.

    • Section Engineer - Design Engineer Placement at Tony Gee and Partners
      • Nov 2017 - Jul 2018

To gain some design experience, I secured a 9 month placement at Tony Gee and Partners. This has given me a wide range of opportunities; initially I produced options for four structures making up a major junction for the Midlands Metro Alliance tram extension scheme. Following this, I was involved in the detailed design of the White Hart Lane Station project, which required me to become proficient in Finite Element Modelling and to exercise the use of Eurocodes for steel, concrete and geotechnics. Tony Gee was a great place to work as they focus on constructability and construction methods within design - these factors allowed me to exercise prior knowledge whilst gaining understanding of how Consultants make decisions that affect the construction phase. • Site Engineer - Commercial Placement
      • Jan 2017 - Oct 2017

Upon assessing the attributes required of a chartered civil engineer I decided that I would benefit from time spent working within a commercial role. This project allowed me to gain a better understanding of the commercial implications of site level decisions and gave me a strong knowledge of NEC contract and change management. During this period I negotiated over £10 million worth of compensation event claims and assisted the management of the main cladding subcontractor.

    • Site Engineer
      • Sep 2016 - Dec 2016

After being promoted to site engineer level I was put in charge of much of the remaining Civils works in the Existing Ticket Halls refurbishment. This included:Foam Concrete and DrainageI managed the installation of the drainage and the raising of the ticket floor level with foam concrete all the way from receipt of initial design through to completion. This included many queries to the designer as there were several elements which were not build-able. With the procurement team I assessed merits of foam concrete subcontractors; with design I assessed methods of protecting the drainage during and following foam concreting, and with quality I established the best ways of assessing specification was met.Structural SteelworkMy final period spent as a site engineer I was managing the installation of five 7m lintels used to widen the front entrance. A subcontractor was undertaking this work, but the area required preparation and the subcontractor's paperwork needed addressing to ensure that it was acceptable to the client. These works were nearing completion when I moved position. Show less

    • Graduate Site Engineer
      • Sep 2015 - Aug 2016

My first full time job as a graduate engineer was working at Whitechapel Crossrail project as a Graduate Site Engineer. I looked after the following schemes of work during the first year:Utilities RediversionA series of communications, electrical and water services had been diverted to allow the demolition of Durward Street bridge so that it could be rebuilt with a larger opening below. Following this, the utilities had to be rediverted across the new bridge. This work involved management of a subcontractor, interfacing with the other teams requiring bridge access and the health and safety practices involved in digging around live services.Construction of a steel frameTo allow for materials to be moved into the new station a steel frame with hoist was built over the footpath. I oversaw the subcontractor building this, but had to deliver the concrete base slab with correctly positioned holding down bolts prior to their arrival. The subcontractor delivered late and with several defects so I identified the issues and worked with designers to find and implement solutions.Demolition of the main Ticket HallTo remove the roof of the existing ticket hall I was in charge of building a temporary works platform from lightweight polystyrene to reduce loading onto the tunnel below. Following this I managed 2 subcontractors, the crane operator and BBMV's direct labour in the actual demolition works. These were undertaken by a spider crane due to the incredibly tight working area and were completed without issue. For each of these elements of work, I was involved in programming, quality control and health and safety. Temporary Works Department July/August 2014 Over the course of July to August 2014, I spent 8 weeks working in the Taylor Woodrow Temporary Works department at the Astral House office. During my time there I had the opportunity to design and check works for the various civil and building projects being undertaken by Vinci Construction UK, including briefs involving formwork and falsework, retaining structures, crane platforms, lifting plans and hoarding. NETphase2 Nottingham Tram Extension October 2012 - September 2013 Through the 2012/13 academic year I then worked on the NETPhase2 tram extension project in Nottingham. During the year I gained experience working as a site engineer in various sections along the new line from Toton to Beeston; this included STATTS diversions, road realignments and the laying of sections of track. Towards the end of my placement I was also involved with the enabling works for the installation of the overhead line equipment. Victoria Station Upgrade July/August 2011 During a summer placement in 2011 I worked on the upgrade project at Victoria Station in London. Alongside BAM Nuttall and Taylor Woodrow engineers I was involved with commercial, health and safety and quality departments over a period of 8 weeks, learning the processes, documentation and requirements of each section. I then went on to spend two weeks helping with the preparation for jet grouting works out on site. Show less
