The main priority is to provide information, support and advice to young people through informal engagement on a street based level. Working closely in partnership with the Police and other services within Blaenau Gwent, myself and the team work with young people in the local area to address anti-social behaviour problems and to promote the safeguarding and well-being of young people. Within the role I have also ran successful community events. I plan, lead and deliver an event that is called Open 4 Youth. Working in partnership with local leisure services a multi-activity event is held on a Saturday evening approx every 2 months. The event is open to all young people and has recently attracted over 250 young people in one evening. These figures have been some of the highest since they were run regularly back approximately 3-4 years ago. I also engage with young people on a project called Positive Futures. This project works with young people who may be facing issues such as; involvement in anti-social behaviour, difficulties engaging with school, socialising issues amongst many others. The project aims to provide alternative and informal education to young people through engagement in active and participative sessions. The young people work towards a Prince's Trust qualification while on the project.

The provision has be running for almost 12 months after moving from its location where it was based for 20+ years. While opening this new provision, I have attempted to change the values and ethics that were previously held to provide a high quality and up-to-date provision to young people in the local community. Through supporting the 5 staff members and volunteers in the team, we have developed and implemented a provision that is thriving and providing high quality youth work to young people. I am responsible for supervising and leading the team to provide high quality information, advice and education to young people in the local community. I am responsible for supervisions with the staff members, managing budgets and buildings and ensuring policies and procedures within the service, local authority and nationally are followed and adhered too. The provision has provided young people with opportunities such as the Duke of Edinburgh Award, which the 8 young people who signed up were the first in any open access provision Blaenau Gwent Youth Service has ran. Young people have been receiving certificates from an award scheme which has been implemented and the provision has had more of a positive presence within the community. Recently I ran a community event which was open to all the community which was planned by young people with some older members volunteering. This attracted over 90 people to the club raising valuable monies for the provision. These successful projects have occurred over approximately 10 months.

The club helped with this transition and also to help with smooth and more relaxed movement from primary into secondary school. The club helped facilitate and develop their personal growth as well as contributing to their educational and social needs. The club was extremely successful with over 50 members. I constantly keep in contact with outside agencies and have many points of contact. Very resourceful and work to budgets.

This allowed me to work closely with Youth Offending Teams. I worked to promote their independence as well as making sure the service user has an active and positive role within the community. I had regular meetings and contact with social services and contribute frequently to the service users care plan. During my time here, I received praise from social services for the quality of work I was providing a service user and the way I adapted my approach depending on circumstances. Show less
