I was fortunate to work with Josh at Angle Health across a number of greenfield projects that were integral to the company's operations. Firstly, I worked with Josh to construct a member clinical taxonomy that would rationalize the costs associated with medical claims. Medical claims is by far the greatest cost center at a health insurance company and this project brought significant visibility into the patterns and trends underlying those costs and further improve our actuarial models. In every step of this project, I greatly valued being able to lean into Josh's expertise in public health and his thorough understanding of our data, and his ability to distill the complexity around healthcare/public health literature into actionable technical specifications. I also worked closely with Josh in standing up the V1 cost estimator tool that would allow members to shop for the best prices for certain medical procedures. This was an important regulatory requirement as part of the Transparency in Coverage rule that had to go live in Q1 2023. Under significant time constraints, Josh was able to craft detailed PRD's and adeptly orchestrate the efforts of 3 back-end engineers, 1 data engineer and 1 front-end engineer to deliver a functional and beautiful member-facing application. In particular, with Josh's guidance and know-how, we were able to build an ETL pipeline that could correctly parse through terabytes of data from two different medical networks with wildly different data structures, and deliver that data to the end user in a performant manner. Overall, I greatly enjoyed working with Josh and valued his perspectives and insights in the healthcare industry, and will miss working with him!
