Involved as part of a team, in the assembly of 3 & 4 cylinder petrol engines for BMW motor cars. This is a shift-work position and my responsibilities include checking parts that are correct for starting and ending each shift. Working to a strict standard to ensure that all working areas are uniformly arranged and tidy, this makes it easier to identify any abnormal conditions that could adversely affect efficient production. The manufacturing processes at the BMW engine plant are highly regimented and several checks and balances are maintained on an individual and managerial level to ensure that the production lines run efficiently, with a high emphasis on health and safety. I enjoy this aspect of the role since having defined parameters reduces the chance of errors or omissions. I work well in a regimented environment but am equally comfortable working independently when required. Show less

A temporary role, working as part of a dedicated team providing materials quotations to roofing contractors from information provided in tender packs. Accuracy was vitally important because contractors rely on the information provided to prepare their own quotations when responding to tendering inquiries. This aspect of the position was particularly enjoyable as it relied on my keen attention to detail and taught me that this is an important and transferrable skill. Responsible for supporting other SIG teams in the preparation and checking of Bills of Quantities prior to dispatch to sites, whilst maintaining close and good relations with regular customers. This aspect of the role helped me develop strong inter-personal skills that again, are transferrable and important in any other role. Show less

Employed as an on-site general operative initially, at a new construction site for Jaguar Land Rover in Coventry. The role had a strong health and safety bias, involving the relocation of materials to areas of the site where it was required and generally ensuring the site work areas were free of trip and fall hazards. Working alongside my immediate supervisor, I was responsible for issuing formal clean-up notices using mobile technology, to formally document potential hazards and record any remedial actions undertaken in an attempt to reduce the possibility of accidents. Everything within this role was cost-controlled and it was extremely satisfying to learn that my effectiveness in this role meant that the costs associated with carrying out these duties (by myself and several of my colleagues) were more than recouped. After a short period of time, I was promoted into the position of Plant Vehicle Marshall, where my duties included guiding and controlling the many plant and vehicle movement to, from and within this large site, with the view of increasing the safety of site operatives, visitors and pedestrians.
