I have worked alongside Joseph for his entire career at Exlabesa formerly as Quality assistant and latterly as he was rightly promoted into the role of Quality Manager. we have worked closely together both in resolving quality issues both real and perceived with existing customers and in showcasing the company and what we can offer. In both situations I have found Joseph to be organised, knowledgeable,, professional and having the foresight and experience to bring all situations to a satisfactory conclusion for all concerned. In addition I find Joseph to be personable and approachable

I had the pleasure of Joseph joining my organisation in Synectics, from first interview Joseph’s drive to learn, improve and progress stood out. During our time working together I found that Joseph both in his academic studies and his work studies constantly strived to gain the highest level of results. He has a real knack for gaining knowledge and insight from his more experienced colleagues, taking this on board and making them feel they have benefitted from the interaction improving the overall team dynamic. This alongside with his overall positive attitude to Quality and Business Improvement meant his contribution was both fun and valuable to the whole team.

Whilst managing a small team and looking after customer issues and complaints, Joseph is the nominated responsible person for the companies ISO 9001:2015 certification. Although not in the role any length of time, achievements so far include having recently led the company through a recertification audit with no major non-conformities as well as developing the company’s Quality Management Systems (QMS) by migrating a paper based system to the cloud, thus making the QMS available at point of use within all departments. Other responsibilities have included the implementation and use of established root cause analysis techniques such as 8D Investigations and A3 Problem Solving.

Working in a customer facing role has enabled the use and strengthening of skills in efficient time management, workload prioritisation and concise/effective communication with persons both internally and externally to the business. Customer complaints vary and present different scenarios, therefore, a versatile approach is required to provide the necessary technical knowledge of the customer’s product and to find an appropriate solution that meets the needs of the customer and indeed the organisation; thus, mitigating the adverse effect on product Quality and ultimately ensuring Customer satisfaction. This role has also provided an environment to learn and develop new skills/knowledge in the aluminium extrusion process, including artificial aging and testing using various standards including EN 755-2, -5, -9, EN 573 and QUALICOAT.

Routine inspection and approval of critical components was the core role of this position; during which time a backlog of six months’ worth of raw materials was cleared, whilst ensuring all items met the highest attainable quality and were compliant to rigorous medical devices standards. Since taking over the management of the Synectics inspection department from an operations perspective, significant improvements were made where constant managerial input was no longer required and inspection/measurement techniques were strengthened with increased reliability and productivity. The writing and implementation of the Synectics Visual Inspection Standard was also positively received; creating a more realistic, user-friendly approach to visual inspection and aligning internal expectations of quality with those of key suppliers. Other duties entailed the management of the organisation’s calibration system and auditing key suppliers overseas and in the UK, from an engineering/inspection standpoint.

From being a school leaver to a core member of the Kostal Measurement Room, this role was valuable in teaching the necessary communication and time management skills required to continually provide quality inspection and measurement support to both production and R&D. Independently writing, validating and running a library of measurement plans using coordinate measurement systems became a vital and valuable role to the organisation.
