Whimsylabs is a virtual laboratory accessible to all over the internet. We innovate in the field of edtech by providing an open sandbox simulation of a chemical laboratory, effectively bringing the full potential of the lab into the students homes. Our revolutionary software is the first of its kind – no other software on the market uses simulations of the fundamental physics to this level for an educational target. From this we dramatically differentiate ourselves amongst our competitors by providing a true to life simulation of chemical interactions. We are able to test experimental design and laboratory skills to students before they even enter the lab, saving costs on consumables and maintenance, while equally improving safety. We are the only ones on the market to work with the teachers, as our software allows teachers to design and create their own experiments quickly and easily. As the founder I have designed and programmed the software from the ground up with the help and support of the rest of the Whimsylabs team. My goal with Whimsylabs is to ensure this new era of simulated education remains affordable to all schools in the UK and globally. Show less

Soft matter and functional interfaces center for doctoral training in collaboration with the University of Edinburgh, Durham University and the University of Leeds. Included 6 months of training with industry and a 4 year project. As a PhD student I took on a full research role investigating colloidal interactions. This involved the use of atomic force microscopy, phase contrast microscopy, electron microscopy. this data was heavily processed through a software I wrote and developed with other members of the University of Edinburgh. This software dealt with over 100,000 points of data to qualitatively and quantitatively automate the analysis process. From this data the basis of my thesis was created. in addition to my thesis I also performed an investigation into bacterial adhesion studies which involved cultivating manipulating and analysing bacterium in a similar manner. During my studies I had also attended over 5 conferences, and had attended various training courses involving nanoscience, and experimental techniques such as small angle scattering and single crystal diffraction. From my PhD I also found the platform to start up my own company: Whimsylabs. Worked with the wide range of SOFI-CDT partners on 7 different consultancy projects tackling current industrial challenges. This involved writing a full report on the subject and presenting a final analysis to the clients. Some subjects included were on Ice cream, bio-fouling, mould toxicity with involved the use of simulations, live experiments and research. I contributed to a laboratory in a school setting where I was responsible for the operation of a technical lab to operational and safety standards. I gained first-hand knowledge about the processes laboratories uses for teaching key scientific concepts and all of the challenges, goals and pitfalls that were involved in the learning process.
