Josephine made an outstanding contribution to the work of Alzheimer's Society as Director of Fundraising & Marketing. For every £1 we raised when she joined us, we were raising £3 when she left. Among her many achievements was a successful bid for the Society to become Tesco charity of the year for an unprecedented second time. Josephine was held in high regard across the organisation, and commanded the confidence both of senior colleagues and of Trustees.

John Palmer

Josephine brought an in depth knowledge of governance; a understanding of the Higher education sector and its need to carefully and sensitively balance its academic integrity and growth alongside its needs to think more commercially to raise funds. She offered considered thoughts and valuable insights into discussions and debates and would fulfilled her governance role of challenging and guiding the executive team with equal amounts of empathy, insight and innovative thinking. An outstanding team player who also has the ability to lead and inspire through encouragement and example.

I'm delighted to have been invited to join the Board of Royal Voluntary Service. I'm also sitting on the Investment Committee. This is what Royal Voluntary service (formerly WRVS) are all about:Royal Voluntary Service wants to help create a society where everyone feels valued and involved whatever their age. RVS are one of the largest volunteer organisations in the country. Our 35,000 volunteers help older people stay active, independent and able to continue to contribute to society. They do this by providing practical and emotional help where and when it’s needed. Royal Voluntary Service helps in all sorts of ways: •We help older people get out of the house for a bite to eat, social occasions or just to see friends•We enjoy popping round for a chat as often as is liked•We will help with jobs such as doing the shopping and collecting library books•We can also do the simple but important things, such as changing a light bulb or fixing a lock•We are here to make sure older people are calm and well informed before they have appointments or a stay in hospital, and we’ll check they are ok when they get home•We also work on a national level to raise awareness of the issues older people face. We do this through our media campaigns and research.

Delighted to be back in the voluntary sector leading the fundraising at the NSPCC. As the leading children's charity in the UK, the NSPCC helps children speak out and stay safe, and through Childline is there for children every day. Child abuse is preventable - not inevitable. It's a privilege to be supporting volunteers and staff alike as each of us to do everything possible to keep childhood safe from abuse, so children can grow up healthy and thrive. If anyone would like to know how they could help keep children safe, please get in touch with me.

In 2005, the word dementia was whispered, and people with dementia were hidden from society. During my 6 years at the charity I led a refereshed branding, tripled voluntary income, grew our supporter base, started the Drug Discovery project at King's College and led this cause out into the limelight.I treasure the scraps of paper and plans which i scribbled on and which began the process of the National Dementia Strategy. This was one of the most productive jobs in my very varied career, and one which I am very proud to have been able to devote so much time and energy to.Our fundraising moved from good to great as Jim Collins would say, and I helped people with dementia take their proper place in a more welcoming and understanding society
