As a member of the World Language Department, I taught Spanish level two and three to students in 9th-12th grades who were primarily heritage-speakers of Spanish. To create an inclusive and rigorous learning environment, I worked diligently to create a student-centered classroom with cooperative grouping and guided reading, and by incorporating TPRS, Brain-Targeted Teaching, and Comprehensible Input. In addition, I served as chair of technology committee, literacy leader, and formative assessment leader. In each of these roles, I served as a teacher leader and worked to support and professionally develop my colleagues. I successfully proposed and developed a new series of courses called Spanish for Spanish Speakers to promote equity and bi-literacy for Spanish-speaking students. To achieve this, I traveled to national and statewide language conferences for curriculum selection, and I developed an assessment in order to evaluate 350 students for placement within the new program.
