  With there being a CMA investigation over Rentokil’s purchase of Cannon from OCS, the initial six-month role emerged to take on the accounting responsibilities that OCS did in-house. The role consisted of a wide range of responsibilities that changed from day to day. Examples of these responsibilities are posting journals at month end, preparing VAT returns for Rentokil, submitting CIS returns to HMRC, bank reconciliations and relevant payment journal postings, accruals and prepayments, reporting on CIS vendors, creating Jet Reports from scratch, helping the company prepare for its first audit and ad-hoc work relating to the transition from a change in finance systems (SAP to Navision). The role gave me exposure to a company going through a significant period of change in a variety of ways e.g. change of finance systems, implementation of a reporting suite via with Jet, implementing a PO portal and transfer of some activities from the OCS offices in Crawley and Manchester in to the Cannon Morecambe office.
