I have worked with Joseph under the Tanzania Mobile Networks Operators Association (TAMNOA) when advocating for tax and policy reforms affecting the telecommunications industry in Tanzania during various occasions of such effort from 2018 to 2022, this had automatically extended to ad hoc consultations and alignments of industry practices when Joseph was the Head of Tax for Vodacom Tanzania. Joseph has worked with PwC for 8 years (from 2008), two years of it being with PwC in South Africa. He has previously worked on both direct and indirect taxes but in the last three years have specialised in indirect taxes and spent two years on secondment to PwC South Africa where he worked in the VAT practice at Sunninghill office. He has experience of selling, building and expanding a portfolio of customers for consulting business, advising clients on indirect tax implications of mergers and acquisitions both from Tanzania and South Africa perspectives. Additional experience includes indirect tax advisory work on restructuring of multi national companies which includes double taxation treaty considerations, tax treatment of cross border services and considerations of impact of the tax legislations of other (mainly African) jurisdictions. Since his return Joseph has also had significant exposure to indirect tax policy issues including as a result of his participation in the taxation stream of the Government sponsored “2014 Business Environment LAB” which reviewed how to improve the business environment of Tanzania (as part of the “Big Results Now” 2025 vision).
