I have known Joseph for 5 years as a fellow student at Manchester Metropolitan and we have also worked on many events together as a student ambassador. His passion for languages is evident through his keen desire in getting involved in all aspects of the course and has thus led him in studying for an MA in Interpreting and Translation. He is dedicated to his studies in translation, and constantly produces work at a very high standard.

    • Assistant Language Teacher (ALT)
      • Mar 2013 - Mar 2015

I worked as an ALT in Japan for three years. During that time I worked in three very contrasting locations; the rural area of Shiiba-son, Miyazaki, the city of Tosu, Saga and the fishing village Ishinomaki, Miyagi. Each position provided me with different challenges and situations. I relished the opportunity to work with students of varying levels of English ability and ages. As an English instructor I: • Motivated students and facilitated second language acquisition through the planning of lessons that aimed to involve all of the senses and engage every type of learner. I endeavoured to create an safe atmosphere in which learning was fun and students weren't afraid to make mistakes.• Provided additional English language instruction in English conversation classes for children and adults; though discussions, and games tailored towards the level of the student.• Involved myself as much as possible at school by attending after school activities, sports days and preparing students for speech contests.• Individual teaching; motivating students and facilitating second language acquisition through the planning of lessons that aimed to involve all of the senses and engage every type of learner.• Creating fun, inspiring and engaging worksheets and PowerPoint presentations.• Group leader at two English camps held in Kitakyushu. The camp was a fantastic experience for the children to enjoy using the language learnt at school in real life situations. My role was to ensure that the children had as much fun as possible whilst remaining safe and under control. Show less
