I worked as part of a team of four students to deliver solutions to problems posed to us by a local charity, which was looking to expand its conference center side business. We were instructed to review the local conference center market, advice on pricing, market positioning and improvements to their already established business and website. We were also asked to identify a potential new customer base and a means to communicate with them, as well as develop a marketing strategy for the conference center. My duties as President were wide ranging. I was head of a committee of 16. I helped recruit many of these members through email and social media, resulting in one of the largest ESN committee in the UK that year. ESN Southampton was the first committee to create a board within the committee, to streamline communication and task delegation.I represented the committee and its interests to the National and International Boards, as well as to the University. I worked closely alongside various members of staff and students from other societies to coordinate a range of events, ranging from educational events to promote student mobility to charity events in partnership with the Amnesty International society, where we slept outside to raise money for the refugees. I oversaw the arranging of events throughout the year, and worked closely with the Vice President and Treasurer to ensure that the events were budgeted properly, and were still a fair price for the students. Under my leadership, ESN Southampton hosted our local MP and a member of the European Commission for a pro-EU talk in the run up to the EU Referendum, which attracted much interest and discussion among the students.Day to day tasks involved monitoring the email account, chairing weekly meetings, coordinating office hours and helping maintain ESN Southampton's presence on social media, to help advise students about upcoming events, and promote our society to our many followers.
