Industrial Placement Student - Engineering Consultancy (Mechanical)
-
Aug 2022 - Present
As an industrial placement student at Hydrock, I have been given the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the design of building systems while working alongside a team of experienced engineers and technicians. I am involved in various projects at varying stages, and learning every day about industry best practices. My responsibilities include assisting with design and calculation, preparing technical reports, conducting site visits, and using software tools. Some of the software I use include; IES for energy and sustainability simulation, Revit for building information modelling (BIM), and AutoCAD for 2D drafting and detailing. Each tool plays a critical role in my development as a mechanical engineering student and allowing me to gain a deeper understanding of building design and energy consumption. I have developed my technical skills, gained hands-on experience, and made meaningful contributions to the delivery of high-quality engineering solutions. Some notable projects I worked on include: - Velindre Cancer Care Hospital - Swansea Community Hub - Brecon NPTC Colleges Show less

- I assisted a company engineer to replace several blades on the guillotine. I learnt the importance for extreme precision of the tool to ensure the end product is to specification. - I assisted a team member in planning to fabricate a part destined for a gold mine in Malia, using parallel line development. - I worked in the sheet metal workshop to produce two brackets to be used as elevator covers for an American cruise ship. - I assisted a company engineer to replace several blades on the guillotine.
