During the school year I worked on the progression of transforming C. Elegans genome to have a miRNA target sequence determined through computer predictions that would activate from lin-4 or one of its family members. I then transformed the purified plasmid into into competent E. coli cells. The next task was to screen the cells in search of a genome with an ampicillin resistance gene, as well as fluorescence gene and our gene inserted. Then to further my research during the summer, I was tasked with the optimization of the remainder of the procedure which would include the transfection of the plasmid into HeLa cells and then a fluorescence assay. During this time, I also worked on the forward progression of the possible targets of Lin-4 and mir-128 that were unable to be finished by other students during the school year. Show less

    • Virology Research Assistant
      • Sep 2015 - May 2016

I Worked alongside Dr. Dye and other students to perform molecular and cellular research on a variety cell types. Specifically, worked on the effects ER stress and its effects on viruses, as well as Protein configuration. I worked on the optimization of stressing cells to test the cells and determine if they were successfully knocked down for their certain proteins. This experience helped me to develop skills in the area such as qPCR, PCR, Western Blotting, as well as Crispr technology and its implementation. This allowed for me to develop the mentality that comes with working in the lab, as well as an introduction into designing my own experiments to proceed. Show less

      • Oct 2012 - Nov 2013

As a student leader, I was designated with the responsibility of planning, and running a certain event for the entire student body. The structure of the organization allowed for everyone to participate and specialize in all events and their technological aspects. This gave us experience in creating marketing pieces for events and trips, to building sound plans and running the light board for music acts in our professional club space. Also due to the structure I am able to work with a variety of different people in a variety of different situations and on a variety of different projects.. I was also responsible for the gear room, which meant I was in charge of preparing and storing any gear needed for events. Show less
