Membership Representative and Milking Systems Specialist
-
Dec 2014 - Present
I serve as a membership representative for a dairy cooperative that services Michigan, northern Indiana, northern Ohio, and northeastern Wisconsin areas. I am in charge of farm sanitation inspections, quality assurance, and various membership duties for approximately 60 dairy farms, located in 12 counties across the Southeast and Lower Thumb regions of Michigan, as well as northern Ohio . I help to ensure top quality standards set by the cooperative, and assist producers in being compliant with regulations of the Pasteurized Milk Ordinance. I work for my producers, and I am their direct connection to all aspects of the cooperative that markets their milk. Additionally, I serve as a Milking Systems Specialist. My role in this capacity is to troubleshoot milking systems as problems arise with cleaning, sanitizing, and system vacuum functionalities that are critical to providing the best Grade A product possible. Owner/operator of a beautiful 400 cow dairy farm. My wife and her brother represent the 6th generation running the 146yr old facility with my father-in-law. Creating the highest quality milk is our responsibility, not just our goal. We receive yearly recognition from our milk marketing cooperative for meeting various quality standards throughout the 12mo period. In addition to producing high quality milk, we love to show our community how great it is to be dairy farmers. We give farm tours to children, adults, families, classrooms, industry professionals and researchers, and everyone in between. We hosted the very first Breakfast on the Farm event at a dairy farm in the state, and have hosted Michigan State University's Dairy Challenge contest twice. In 2021 we started hosting monthly Family Fun on the Farm events from April through September, inviting members of our community to come check out a working dairy farm and see how we put milk in their glasses and food on their tables. We also operate an on-farm storefront where we sell retail cheese, butter, beef, and chicken. Show less

A pumpkin farming and family ag-education business. During the spring and summer I would do various tasks related to field prep, planting pumpkin seeds, and weed maintenance. In addition, I did maintenance-related tasks around the sales barn and commercial property. During fall I would assist customers with any needs they had. As the business expanded to include ice cream sales, I ran the cash register as needed. A pumpkin farming and family ag-education business.
