Joseph and I worked in the QOS (Quality of Supply) team at National Grid. Although we worked together for only a year, it was enough for me to recognize his unwavering passion and utmost dedication to the field he loves – engineering. He isn’t your average engineer wanting to do good things at work but he’s one of those constantly switched on, enthusiastically technical individuals who would reverse engineer life to find solutions to the problems that you thought didn’t exist. An example of this would be the installation of a wind turbine at a school (a project he executed independently - raising funds and managing works) which served a certain percentage of their energy demand. This had a profound impact as it not only contributed to reducing the carbon footprint for the school but more importantly, introduced school kids to stop, wonder and ask questions about it. As Einstein said, ‘to raise new questions, new possibilities, to regard old problems from a new angle, requires creative imagination and marks real advance in science’. That’s the effect Joseph’s work has on any place and what better way to contribute than to encourage critical creative thinking.

Joseph is a very kind and able person always keen to learn new electrical engineering skills. When he joined my team while I was leading it in an acting capacity we have thrown Joseph to the deep end of harmonic analysis and despite all hurdles associated with the project he has managed to deliver an excellent result. He is not afraid to take on new challenges even if it is beyond his existing sphere of knowledge. A day doesn’t pass by without Joseph asking me or other experienced colleagues about certain aspect of electrical power systems indicating his inquisitive thinking and desire to learn in order to perform his duties. Joseph is an ideal candidate to become an experienced power system engineer in a relatively short time period.
