Blackburn Gould was set up with the aim of providing facilities management support and training to SMEs and other educational institutions. It focuses on capacity building in frontline facilities staff, resulting in their improved skills and technical ability. To ensure the sustained viability of this organisation that I started and guarantee long term funding for accredited training courses, I have established partnerships with various government and private sector funders as well as working diligently to achieve center accreditation for the training service. As a consultant, I combine my practical expertise with management consultancy methods in reviewing existing facilities strategies and associated budgets for SMEs and educational institutions, providing service improvement recommendations and supporting the achievement of flexible, sustainable and efficient facilities services. In this short-term position, I developed and implement a compliance maintenance strategy and programme to rapidly achieve statutory compliance across the estate working to a very constricted budget. I also worked collaboratively with various organisations including the Epsom and Ewell Council to look at the viability of further commercial and residential development on the college’s land as part of the new Estate Development Strategy that I worked on. Assitatnt Director, Estates andFacilities

Working within a target-driven environment I led the delivery of Soft FM services to over 28,000 students and 3,000 members of staff across the university. I manged a team of 210 staff working in logistics, security, cleaning, grounds, waste management, travel and transport, retail and car-parking. With Responsibility for the University’s Sustainability Strategy and Transport Policy, I also led the transition to the ISO14001:2015 Environmental Management System. As part of the senior mangement team responsible for Estates and Facilities, I reviewed the customer service culture within the department and implemented a service improvement programme which resulted in effeciencies in both the Cleaning Services and the Security and Logistics team. By introducing improved delivery systems over £190K was saved over 9 months with a further £620K of savings expected over the next 3 years. Show less

I was responsible for leading the department and managing the outsourced services ensuring contract compliance. I was also responsible for setting out a clear 5-year maintenance strategy for the college. As project lead for the £7.5m Harlow Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering Centre and the £1.4m redevelopment of the college’s Media Centre, I identified eco-friendly approaches to minimise the environmental impact of both projects. Leading a team of 470 personnel in the Facilities Management Department, I was responsible for the setting out the strategic and operational direction of the department. With responsibility for the university’s travel and transport, I was also part of the management board for the UniLink bus service. Key achievements during this period included increasing the waste recycled across the University estate by 40%, resolving a service charge dispute between the University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust, National Institute of Health Resource and the University of Southampton and developing a clear business plan for the Catering and Hospitality division, thereby increasing the income from conferences by £200K over a 18-month period. Responsible for the delivery of total facilities services across the councils’ corporate estate of 127 buildings and 108 schools, including the management of the print and postal services, cleaning, security, building maintenance and Health and Safety. Leading the service delivery during a period of government cutbacks I was responsible for ensuring statutory compliance, value for money and delivery of the council's strategic estates objectives.
