Final project - Houseplant companion app ‘Plantly’ Created with React Native, pSQL and Firebase, consuming a number of public APIs Back End project – API Created with Express.js, including comprehensive error-handling Front End project – Games review website Created in React, consuming the above API Mini-apps Calculator app and Pokémon stat comparison tool (consuming public API PokéAPI) created as an introduction to React I practised pair programming, as well as working as part of a team to plan our final project, hold daily stand-ups, and troubleshoot problems. Using React Native for my final project, having only worked in React previously, meant that I had to quickly problem-solve for a number of framework-specific issues and bugs. Show less

I taught all specialisms to KS3 level and taught chemistry to KS4 and KS5 level. I was also responsible for my students’ reports and parents’ evenings. I communicated with my colleagues to apply standards consistently across the school, and discussed teaching approaches. I gained experience speaking in front of large groups, and tailoring my language to my audience’s experience (my students). I also relayed information professionally to parents. I was able to distil complex scientific concepts into understandable, manageable chunks, and adapt lessons on-the-fly based on feedback from the class. My roles and responsibilities were demanding and numerous and required good organisation and time-management, including; preparing tailored lessons for 10 classes of different ability levels and points along the curriculum (KS3, KS4, KS5), marking of work and recording and referring back to those marks throughout the year, parents’ evenings, report writing, and pastoral responsibilities. I trained for 2 years to become a UK Chartered and European Patent Attorney. I met with inventors to discuss their inventions, drafted patents and responses to examinations reports and oppositions, and advised clients on pathways to national and international protection. My role involved lots of forms of communication, each requiring different levels of details and industry jargon, for example being more detailed when responding to the patent office, and speaking more concisely and colloquially when relaying advice and outcomes to inventors. Patents had to be carefully crafted as one wrong word or phrase could drastically change the level of protection. I also came up with ways to overcome patent office objections to patent validity while keeping maximum protection, which is also a fine art in itself. Show less
